Nation Media Group recently hosted a board dinner to honour retired board members: Mr. Wangethi Mwangi, Mrs. Sumayya Hassan and Mr. Francis Okello. Their selfless service and contribution to NMG over the years has contributed to who we are today and for that, we are truly indebted.
Mr. Mwangi, a career journalist, rose through the ranks at NMG before joining the Board, where he served for 7 years. While at the helm of the Group’s editorial function, he oversaw the Group’s rapid growth from a newspaper publisher to a multimedia Group with presence across East Africa. He has dedicated his life to telling the stories that matter and fighting for press freedom. In so doing, he left an indelible mark of passion, resilience and hard work in the journalism profession, and on the NMG Board of Directors.
Mr. Okello’s relationship with NMG has spanned decades, beginning with an article published in the dailies in the 1960s. 28 years after he was appointed to the Board, NMG celebrated his service to the media house, where he brought extensive industry experience in law, banking and corporate governance to the Group’s governance.
